The development history of candles

The development of candles can be traced back to ancient times, and here are some of the key stages:

Origin: Candles first originated in Egypt in the 30th century BC, when the ancient Egyptians used reeds dipped in melted tallow to make candles.

Middle Ages: In the Middle Ages, the main materials for candles in southern Europe and the Mediterranean coast were still beef tallow and mutton fat. According to historical records, candles first appeared in China no later than the Eastern Han Dynasty. During the Western Jin Dynasty, nobles Wang Kai and Shi Chong competed to show off their wealth. Wang Kai once washed a wok with malt sugar and dry rice, while Shi Chong cooked with candles, indicating that candles were expensive items at the time.

19th century: With the emergence of oil refining technology in Europe in the 19th century, candles were converted to paraffin wax production.

20th century: In the 20th century, cheap stone candles became popular, and candle production gradually became industrial and commercialized to meet market demand.
